Watching the CodeRage streams and asking questions
We have a new event chat room interface we are introducing for the first time at CodeRage. The live media stream for each session in each track is embedded into the chat room for that session.
The first time you enter an event chat room, you will have an opportunity to create your chat room account. This chat room is linked to your Developer Network Membership account, so once you set up your chat account, you will not need to login again. When you go to the chat room, if you do not have your user cookie set for the Developer Network, you will be redirected to the login page for your membership account.
We encourage you to go to the chat rooms now so you can address any access issues you might have before the event starts. The streams may be up or down sporadically, but will usually be running from now throughout the end of CodeRage.
Watching and listening
For CodeRage, due to bandwidth issues we are currently streaming audio only from the chat room. For other broadcasts, in Internet Explorer, the event chat room will show the complete video scaled to fit in a small window. You can use the "Detach video" button to display the stream in a separate window to resize it.
If you are using a non-Microsoft browser and Windows Media Player 11, you may notice that the video is cropped. You will need to use the "Detach video" button to display the stream in a separate window to see all of it. The detached video window will allow you to resize the video stream to whatever size you wish.
Please note: once you detach the video from the chat room, there is currently no way to re-attach it. If you want the video embedded back in the chat window, you will need to leave the chat room and come back in.
Replays of sessions
After CodeRage completes, we will make all the sessions available for replay, so you can watch them whenever you want. Thanks for your interest!
A fair number of users have reported problems with Interwise audio. Unfortunately, Interwise audio cannot be turned off in the client, although there are dialogs that seem to indicate it can be. The solutions we have found thus far are:
- Use two machines: one for Interwise video and one for our mms stream audio.
- Windows Vista allows you to individually control audio settings for each application using audio. So if you're using Windows vista, you should be able to turn off audio on Interwise and use media player to listen to our audio streams.
- Use IndieVolume to individually control the volume of Interwise and your media server stream. https://www.indievolume.com/download.php
Connect to either mms://video.codegear.com/stream1 or mms://video.codegear.com/stream2 to hear our audio streams.
How to Register for Promotional Offers and Prizes
There is a 'button" link in the event chat rooms that says "I'm Listening". Click on that button during the broadcast to indicate that you are listening. If you have not registered in the LiveCast application, you will be prompted to do so when you first click the link. It is pretty painless.
For CodeRage, we will be awarding a variety of prizes for both sessions and the entire CodeRage conference, so be sure to click "I'm listening" at least once for every session you attend.
For some of our other broadcasts, we also provide prizes. For every chat you register as a listener, you will also earn points.
If you do not want to participate in the chat rooms, you can go directly to the home page for LiveCast at https://test.codegear.com/livecast and select the appropriate broadcast from there.

Troubleshooting Connectivity Problems
If you want to test your connectivity to our live broadcasting system, open your media player using mms://video.codegear.com/replay/cdntvtest.wmv. If you have trouble watching this replay, try setting the buffer on Windows Media Player to 20 seconds. You can also manually set your connection speed lower or higher. It's under the Tools | Options | Performance dialog, shown here:
If you can't connect to this replay at all, you probably have port 1755 (Windows Media Server) blocked on your firewall, or port 554. You'll need to get those ports opened. If you can't open the firewall port yourself, you'll have to request it from your IS department. We hope to "see" you on the broadcast!

EventCentral lists all scheduled live chats. You can see this list by setting your EventCentral filter to upcoming events and "live chat". You can also use this link to see the list of upcoming live chats, then filter it to the product(s) you are interested in hearing
