MAX_THREADS defaults to 1000000

By: Quinn Wildman

Abstract: The optimal setting for MAX_THREADS on single CPU systems is 1

If MAX_THREADS is not set in the ibconfig file, InterBase 7.1 defaults to setting MAX_THREADS to 1 on single CPU systems and to 1000000 on systems with more than one CPU.

InterBase 7.5 inadvertantly sets MAX_THREADS to 1000000 for all systems, which may result in a performance degregation. Customers may wish to edit their IBCONFIG file and change it to 1. For the InterBase server to be recoginise this change the InterBase server must be restarted. For additional information on settings for the IBCONFIG file, please see Tuning Borland InterBase Configuration Parameters
