Abstract: Notes on installing TurboRuby
TurboRuby™ Installation Notes
These notes apply to the TurboRuby 2.0 Release.

System Requirements
TurboRuby has been certified and is supported on the following platforms for this release:
- Mac OS X 10.5 (aka Leopard) on Intel
- Ubuntu 8.04 (aka Hardy) on Intel 32-bit
- Windows XP on Intel 32-bit
- Windows Vista on Intel 32-bit
In addition to the officially supported platforms the following operating systems are reported to work:
- Mac OS X 10.4 (aka Tiger) on Intel
- Ubuntu 7.10 (aka Feisty) on Intel 32-bit
- Mac OS X 10.4 (aka Tiger) on PowerPC
- Mac OS X 10.5 (aka Leopard) on PowerPC
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server and Workstation 4 on Intel 32-bit
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server and Workstation 5 on Intel 32-bit
- Windows Vista 32-bit version on Intel 64-bit
Installing TurboRuby
If you have not already, download and extract TurboRuby from CodeGear https://www.codegear.com/products/turboruby.
Windows Installation
To install on Windows:
- Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the TurboRuby install directory
- Launch
install_windows.exe
Linux Installation
To install on Linux:
- Open a terminal and navigate to the TurboRuby install directory
- Launch
install_linux.sh
Additional notes:
- The installer does not create shortcuts on Linux.
Mac Installation
To install on a Mac:
- Using Finder, navigate to the TurboRuby install directory
- Launch
install_macosx.app
Additional notes:
- Note: The default target directory is the current user's applications
folder (
~/Applications
), rather than the system applications folder (/Applications
).
Post Installation Instructions

Product Update Instructions
Update Option 1: Search for updates on current features
- Launch TurboRuby
- From the main menu, select Help | Software Updates | Find and Install...
- Select Search for updates of the installed features
- Select Finish. Note: Sometimes this process will timeout while trying to locate download sites for certain features. If this happens, just start over.
- Select the CodeGear TurboRuby Updates option and deselect all others
- Select Next
- Review and accept license agreement
- Select Next
- Make sure that the main TurboRuby checkbox is checked
- Select Finish
- Select Install All when prompted for verification to install updates
- Select Yes when prompted to restart
Update Option 2: Search for new features to install
- Launch TurboRuby
- Form the main menu, select Help | Software Updates | Find and Install...
- Select Search for new features to install
- Select Next
- Select CodeGear TurboRuby Discovery site from the list. Make sure that the other sites are deselected.
- Select Finish
- Select CodeGear TurboRuby Discovery from the list
- Select Next
- Make sure that the main TurboRuby checkbox is checked
- Select Finish
- Select Install All when prompted for verification to install updates.
- Select Yes when prompted to restart.
Update Option 3: Manage configuration
- Launch TurboRuby
- Form the main menu, select Help | Software Updates | Manage Configuration
- Expand
<TurboRubyInstall>\turboruby\eclipse
- In the tree on the left, select the node labeled
TurboRuby ?.?.?.?
- In the pane on the right, select Scan for updates
- Review and accept the license agreement
- Select Yes when prompted to restart.
