davidi: Jimmie: "Ask Were there CD's from DevCon? I never received anything." - If you were a paid attendee you should have received the DevCon 2005 disc. If not, email christine ellis - email@example.com
davidi: KevinRF: "When will we be able to vote on DevCon content?" - In August
davidi: KevinRF: "Are the DevCon submissions going to be filtered or will we able to vote on all submissions? Example, will we only be able to vote for .Net tracks?" - The current plan is to let everyone vote for 10 sessions they want to come and see. Why 10? Actually given the conference schedule, each individual would only be able to attend 10 technical sessions, maybe 11 of the total of 13 or 14 sessions time blocks.
davidi: Jimmie: "Hi DavidI. I gave you the large print from the year before." - Loved it - have it framed at home
jkaster: davidi: "For Mark - is there an objective measure of how the quality and performance improved between Delphi 2005 and 2006?" - Mark: I think primarily it's more feel, based on the feedback from community members. There are some things that allow us to measure improvements, like Automated Incident Reports (AIRs) in the IDE, statistics around bug reports, etc.
jkaster: Liz, you can ask about hotfix 7 if you want

davidi: doychin: "In case I want to help with making Delphi and Other Developer tools more popular among the students in local universities in Plovdiv, Bulgaria who I should contact about some materials like presentations or other stuff I can use for that porpose?" - Contact Anders Ohlsson
davidi: JoeH: "will the Delphi Museum be at DevCoCon?" - The museum is online at https://bdn.borland.com/museum/
jkaster: davidi: "For Mark - what more quality/performance work is left to be done - what are the hotspots?" - Mark: I've openly solicited for feedback on specific performance items
jkaster: Mark (dot) Edington (at) Borland (dot) com for email
jkaster: JoeH: "from QC stats link: 21935 Users = ?BDN accounts ?QC participants" - that's only QC users. We have millions of BDN accounts
jkaster: davidi: "Will the hotfixes be combined into an official Delphi update?" - nick: (teeth sucking) That's tough because it takes a lot of effort to produce an update. The case to make an update when they're already available is hard to make.
jkaster: davidi: "When will highlander field test start?" - nick: Friday (July 21, 2006)
jkaster: davidi: "When will you release an updated version of TSmiley that works with Delphi.NET?" - nick: that's a tough one. It's extremely complex. (joking)
jkaster inserts the following link: https://cc.borland.com/Item.aspx?id=20387
jkaster: C# version of TSmiley
jkaster: davidi: "When will Delphi support integrations for the next version of Office?" - nick: that's definitely on the list, like the new office "ribbon" technology. My guess is it will become part of the action band stuff Steve Trefethen has done.
jkaster: bmcgee: "Millions of valid unique BDN accounts?" - yes
jkaster: Woof: "What can we realistically do to help DevCo with its products (In my case Delphi) in any ways, for those of us who might be able to do something, no matter how small or dull" –
Nick: demo the product, recommend it, post examples to CodeCentral ...
jkaster: bmcgee: "Follow up reminder about getting the slide deck and updated Delphi road map that Anders was using on his road trip." - thanks. haven't forgotten!
jkaster: davidi: "How will the Delphi team be able to implement support for all of the new initiatives that MS is building - VIsta, WPF, WCF, LINQ, Security, etc" - nick: The answer to that is: one at a time, as they come up. David: we're staffing up as well.
jkaster inserts the following link: https://www.xcalibur.co.uk/training/Delphi2005/jkaster: Liz's Delphi tutorial
jkaster: P-Norton: "Need native Delphi Win32 Generics!" - nick: Yes, indeed we do!
jkaster: LizRiley: "So, will there be a hotfix 7, or 8 any clues as to what its intending to address?" - nick: we are planning a hotfix 7, and it will address some compiler issues.
jkaster: aikimark: "By how much are you going to miss your end-Q2 DevCo announcement goal?" - Will provide quote from Tod Nielsenjkaster inserts the following link: https://messages.finance.yahoo.com/Technology/Software_and_Programming/threadview?m=tm&bn=9567&tid=165952&mid=165952&tof=1&frt=2
jkaster: bmcgee: "Will there be a DevCon version of Highlander this year?" - david: it's stil to be determined by the team whether we'll have something to give everyone, or make available for download. We pushed DevCon out to make sure we have as much Highlander as possible.
jkaster: iman: "I've requested material to demo BDS2006, maybe that could be a download? I just need a script to follow." - nick: that's exactly the kind of thing we'll be posting
jkaster: aikimark: "how will you avoid becoming the Digital Equipment Corp of the software world (great engineering but bad marketing)?" - nick: by doing good marketing. david: in DevCo, we're investing in marketing
jkaster: JoeH: "in many merges/spinoffs, no one gets any work done while everything is up in the air - how have you avoided that pitfall?" - david: we're working. allen: we still come to work every day, getting work done
jkaster inserts the following link: https://blogs.borland.com/abauerjkaster: Allen's blog
jkaster: bmcgee: "Will there be NDataStore coverage at DevCon US?" - david: I don't see why we shouldn't. john: Steve Shaughnessy just asked me this morning about doing an NDataStore session
jkaster: aikimark: "How are you going to shorten the gap between .Net releases and Delphi-compat with that version?" - nick: We're going to work really, really hard at providing the best solution for that platform as soon as we can. David: If you're looking backwards, it was because of lack of investment in R&D.
jkaster: aikimark: "if you could use jdatastore/ndatastore to provide true data security on the client PC, I could bring you a bunch of license sales" - noted. Could you please send me email about this so we can discuss further details? I'd love to make the strongest case possible for NDataStore ASAP. Thanks much!

jkaster: skamradt2: "How about a detailed description on how to do this on BDN?" - if "this" means .NET 2.0, good idea. David just suggested it ;)
jkaster: KevinRF: "Will there be Delphi-Win32 coverage (COM, DataSnap, WebBroker, etc) at DevCon? If so how much?" - david: If you vote for them, absolutely
jkaster: JoeH: "since ECO3 is one of the UNIQUE vs MS BDS features, how much influence is the ECO team allowed during DevCo decision-making?" - nick: I want to point out that we recognize ECO is a strong differentiator and we're looking at ways to leverage it in other areas. David: We're doing seminars in Europe, and online as well ...

jkaster: jaben: "Who can I contact to get tech info about the IDE for plugin development?" - david: Meaning the Open Tools API? It's in the product. Look on CodeCentral, look at GExperts ...
NickH: swierzbic: "will their be a public beta of highlander?" - Maybe -- we are considering something like that.
