Résumé: J Optimizer 2009 Installation Notes
Embarcadero® J Optimizer™ 2009 Installation Notes
For updates to these notes,

J Optimizer equips Java
developers with a comprehensive toolkit for optimizing application
performance and quality. Stand-alone J Optimizer provides full
profiling capability
without requiring integration into an IDE or a larger development
environment. You can use J Optimizer to profile memory and CPU usage,
display
real-time threading information, and determine which parts of your code
are actually being executed. You can also track performance bottlenecks
at the JDBC, JMS, JNDI, JSP, EJB, CCI, and Web Services levels, and
locate the exact line of source code for root-cause analysis. You can
also run source code Audits and Metrics in J Optimizer.

General
If the installation can be performed successfully on another machine
(with the same OS platform), the resulting installation directory can
be copied from one machine to another. This can be the easiest way to
workaround installation problems, but is only useful when other
machines on a network are available.
Nothing happens after the installation program is started
If the main installation program does not automatically launch when
the DVD is inserted into the DVD drive:
- Navigate to the DVD drive.
- Navigate to the root directory.
- Double-click on the installation executable (
install_windows.exe
on Windows, install_macosx on the Mac OSX, or install_linux.sh
for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 or 5).
Error -1 when starting the installation program from a DVD
This error occurs when the DVD driver is having trouble reading from
the DVD. In this case, try copying the contents of the DVD into a
temporary directory on your hard drive and then launch the installer
from that location. If the files cannot be copied from the DVD to the
hard drive because of read errors (for example, error -1, read errors,
etc.), check the DVD for scratches. If the DVD is visibly damaged,
please contact customer support.
If the contents of the DVD still cannot be copied to the hard drive,
an alternative is to simply download and install the appropriate ESD
version of J Optimizer 2009:

NOTE: You may need to register.
The main installation program does not launch when the DVD is
inserted
To eliminate possible conflicts with other third-party software,
disable anti-virus software (e.g. stop the service), exit out of any
other currently running software, and then retest the installation.
In Windows XP, you can automatically do this using the msconfig.exe
tool to restart your system in a diagnostic mode that prevents
third-party services from starting up. To do this:
- Choose Start | Run.
- Enter
msconfig and click OK.
- Under the General tab, select Diagnostic Startup and click OK.
- Restart your system and start the J Optimizer 2009 installation
program again.
After successfully installing J Optimizer 2009, repeat these steps,
changing Diagnostic Startup to your usual Startup mode.
The installation programs seems to start, but then freezes at the
splash screen
To troubleshoot installation graphics driver issues, try the
following:
- First, visit the website of the manufacturer of the graphics card
to download and install the latest driver.
- Windows XP: If the issue is not resolved, try turning down the
graphics card acceleration. To do this:
- Right-click on the desktop.
- Choose Properties | Settings | Advanced | Troubleshoot.
- Set the Hardware acceleration to None.
- Start the J Optimizer 2009 installation program again.
- The installation progress bar may stay near the end for a very
long time, making it seem like the installation program has hung. Do
not end the program; the installation will complete successfully after
a period of time.
