Abstract: InterBase 6 is included with the Cobalt RaQ 3/4. Instructions on how to get it going.
1. Make sure that you have the following line in /etc/services:
gds_db 3050/tcp # InterBase Database Remote Protocol
2. Also make sure that you have the following line in /etc/inetd.conf:
gds_db stream tcp nowait.30000 root
/usr/local/sbin/gds_inet_server gds_inet_server # InterBase Database Remote Server
NOTE: If the line is commented out, please uncomment the line and poke
the inetd daemon by sending the HUP signal as follows:
kill -HUP pid_of_inetd_process
where pid_of_inetd_process is an ID of the inetd process on your system.
You need to find out the pid (process ID) for the inetd process. In
order to do that, use the following command:
ps -e | grep inetd
where 'ps -e' means "show me all processes currently running on a
'|' means redirect output of 'ps' to utility 'grep'
'grep inetd' means print lines matching a pattern 'inetd'
You should get something like that:
292 ? 00:00:00 inetd
The first number (292) is a process ID which you should use as an input
parameter for 'kill' command:
kill -HUP 292
Please note that you have to be superuser (root) to be able to send a
signal to the inetd. You do _not_ have to reboot your system.
3. Add the following line to /etc/hosts.equiv (create the file if it
As far as administration of IB, you can _not_ use IBConsole (or any
other tools) that make use of InterBase Services API to administer
InterBase. The reason for that is because InterBase 6.0 on RaQ 3/4 is a
Classic Server (please take a look at the following article:
the Classic Server does _not_ support the Services API. Only Super
server does support it.
You can use the command line tools: ISQL (command line version of
WISQL), GBAK, GSTAT, GFIX, GSEC. They provide all functionality you need
to administer InterBase.

As far as ODBC driver for IB 6.0, you can take a look at the following
