    Important Note about Re-Release of Updates 2, 3, and Boost Library

Updates 4, 5, and Boost Library are a re-release of previous updates (Updates 2, 3, and Boost Library). This re-release is intended to fix registration issues that were reported with Updates 2, 3, and Boost Library. Additional fixes have been added to the updates, making the new updates no longer identical to the original updates, and so the update numbers have been incremented.

  • You can install the new updates (Updates 4, 5, and Boost Library) over the RTM version or any earlier update (Update 1, 2, or 3).

  • If you have not installed the original updates (Updates 2, 3, and Boost Library), you do not need to install them.

  • If you installed the original updates (Updates 2, 3, and Boost Library), you do not need to uninstall them.

        Prerequisites and Notes for the Updates

        Prerequisites and Notes for Update 4

    Delphi and C++Builder 2010 Update 4 is an MSI-based patch. Update 4 can be applied over any of the following products:

    • Delphi 2010 RTM, Update 1, Update 2, or Update 3
    • C++Builder 2010 RTM, Update 1, Update 2, or Update 3
    • RAD Studio 2010 RTM, Update 1, Update 2, or Update 3

    For a complete list of the specific problems fixed in Updates 4 and 5, see the following articles:

    You should avoid stopping the update installation once it has started.  Update 4 might take 20 minutes or more to install.

        Prerequisites and Notes for Update 5 (Database Pack)

    Only database-related fixes are included in Update 5 (Database Pack)Update 4, which includes fixes to the rest of the product, is a prerequisite that must be installed separately.

    Update 5 (Database Pack) will uninstall the previous Database Pack that was installed and install this newer version.  The version of the database files in this update will be 3611

    Update 5 (Dababase Pack) can be applied over any of the following products:

    • Delphi 2010 or Delphi 2010 with Update 4
    • C++Builder 2010 or C++Builder 2010 with Update 4
    • RAD Studio 2010 with Update 4

    Update 5 (Database Pack) requires that Update 4 be applied in order to work properly.  If Update 4 is not installed, please do not install Update 5.  Instead, install Update 4 first and then apply Update 5.  Update 5 might take ten minutes or more to install.

        Prerequisites and Notes for the Boost Library Update (C++Builder 2010)

    The Boost library update for C++Builder 2010 is a full install of the Boost library.

    You can install this Boost library update over the following product versions:

    • C++Builder 2010 with Updates 4 and 5
    • RAD Studio 2010 with Updates 4 and 5

    Notes:

    • If you have the the RTM version of C++Builder 2010 installed, you must install Updates 4 and 5 before you install the Boost library update.
    • If you install Update 4 for C++Builder 2010, you must also install the Boost library update.  C++Builder 2010 requires the Standard Template Library from Boost, and the C++ compiler version will change (to version 6.21) when you install Update 4.  Therefore you must install the Boost library update after you install Update 4 (and optionally Update 5, the database pack) for C++Builder 2010.

    The Boost library update might take 30 minutes or more to complete.

    Before installing, uninstalling, or upgrading the product, see the INSTALL and LICENSE files for detailed information about installation and licensing issues. After installation, the default location of these files is C:\Program Files\Embarcadero\RAD Studio\7.0.

        Installing the Updates

    You can install the Delphi and C++Builder 2010 updates (or any of the updates in the pack) in either of two different ways -- either by downloading via the automatic update mechanism or by downloading from the registers users Web page:

    Downloading the Updates via the Automatic Update Mechanism

    • If you selected "Check for Updates Automatically" when you installed the product, you should automatically be notified when an update is available for download. Click the notification and follow the instructions to download and install the Update.

    • Checking for Updates:  If you do not receive an automatic notification about the update, you can check for updates manually:

      1. Select Start | Programs | Embarcadero RAD Studio 2010 | Check for updates.

      2. In the list of the updates, you should see the available updates already selected as follows:

        • For Delphi 2010, C++Builder 2010, or RAD Studio 2010:

          Delphi and C++Builder 2010 Update 4
          Delphi and C++Builder 2010 Update 5 (Database Pack)
          C++Builder 2010 Boost Update *

          *Note that the Boost update is only available when the C++ personality is installed, and is required if you install Update 4 for the C++ personality.

        • For Delphi 2010:

          Delphi and C++Builder 2010 Update 4
          Delphi and C++Builder 2010 Update 5 (Database Pack)

        You might also see any help updates that are currently available (Check for Updates).

        It is recommended that you install all the available updates. If you want to install only a selected update or two, select the update(s) you want to install.

      3. Click Download.  After the download completes, the InstallAware wizard should automatically appear.  One InstallAware wizard manages the installation of the updates.

        If you do not see the InstallAware wizard, click the tray icon for the Embarcadero product you are updating.

    Downloading the Updates from the Registered Users Web Page

    1. Obtain the updates for your product from the registered users download page, as follows:
    2. Download <RADStudio2010UpdatePack_Dec09.zip> to your computer and extract the zip file.

    3. Run the appropriate setup.exe to install each update you want.  For Update 5 (Database Pack), you need to run dbpack_setup.exe /upgrade to install the update. Install each of the three updates using a separate Setup.exe file, as follows:

     Update Executable for Delphi 2010 Executable for C++Builder 2010  Executable for RAD Studio 2010
     Update 4  DelphiC++Builder2010Update4.exe  DelphiC++Builder2010Update4.exe  DelphiC++Builder2010Update4.exe
     Update 5 (Database Pack)  dbpack_setup.exe /upgrade  dbpack_setup.exe /upgrade  dbpack_setup.exe /upgrade
     Boost library update  N/A  boost_setup.exe /upgrade  boost_setup.exe /upgrade

        General Notes

    • If you download the latest ISO from the Registered Users page and you have RAD Studio 2010 installed, you must first uninstall that version (using Add/Remove Programs) before installing from the ISO.  You need to do a full install, without using the /upgrade option.

    • Installation of the update might take thirty minutes or more to complete. You should avoid stopping the Update installation once it has started.

    • If you install Update 4 for C++Builder 2010, you must also install the Boost update (part of this update package).

        Uninstalling the Updates

        Uninstalling Update 4

    If you need to uninstall Update 4, you must uninstall the entire product and reinstall one of the following:

    • Delphi 2010, C++Builder 2010, or RAD Studio 2010 (RTM)
    • Update 1 to Delphi 2010, C++Builder 2010, or RAD Studio 2010

        Uninstalling Update 5 (Database Pack)

    If you need to uninstall the update, select "Embarcadero Delphi and C++Builder 2010 Database Pack" in Add/Remove Programs, and click Remove. The IDE has dependencies on the Database Pack, so you should not uninstall the DataBase Pack if you will continue to use the IDE.

    If you have all three personalities of RAD Studio 2010 installed (including Delphi Prism), uninstalling Update 5 (Database Pack) or uninstalling Delphi Prism will mean that you must restart the Blackfish SQL server.

        Uninstalling the Boost Library

    The C++ Standard Library has dependencies on Boost, so you should not uninstall Boost if you will continue to use the C++ compiler.

        Known Issues

    On Windows 7 and Vista, a spurious warning message has been observed during installation. If you receive a warning at the end of the installation (stating that setup may not have completed successfully), but you did not see any errors during the actual install, please disregard the warning about setup not completing successfully.
