Abstract: J Optimizer Agent 2009 Installation Notes
Embarcadero® J Optimizer™ 2009 Agent Installation

The Agent
runs inside the Java virtual machine that is running the testing
session and collects data.
- 512 MB RAM minimum (1 GB RAM recommended)
- 150 MB hard disk space minimum, plus additional space during
installation
- Sun SolarisTM SPARC 10,
Macintosh OS X Leopard (10.5), Microsoft® Windows™ XP Professional
(SP3), Microsoft® Windows™ Vista 32-bit (SP1), Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 4.0 or 5.0
To install J Optimizer 2009 Agent on Windows:
- Close all other running applications before installing J
Optimizer 2009 Agent.
- Insert DVD; or download the ESD and extract it to
[JOptimizer2009RootDirectory]. The installation launcher opens. If the
installation launcher does not open (or you are not installing from the
DVD), open the DVD or navigate to [JOptimizer2009RootDirectory],
double-click install_windows.exe.
- To begin installation, click J Optimizer 2009 Agent.
- The Introduction screen appears.
- Read the information provided. Click Next.
- Accept the license agreement when prompted. Click Next.
- Accept the default or enter the directory where you want J
Optimizer 2009 Agent installed. Click Next.
- Review the installation options that you have selected. If the
options are correct, click Install to begin the installation.
- Wait for the progress bar to indicate that the install is
complete. Click Done.
- Close all other running applications before installing J
Optimizer 2009 Agent.
- To start the installation launcher, insert DVD and open
JOPTIMIZER2009 icon on the desktop, or
download ESD and extract to [JOptimizer2009RootDirectory], open and
double-click install_macosx icon.
- To begin installation, click J Optimizer 2009 Agent.
- The Introduction screen appears.
- Read the information provided. Click Next.
- Accept the license agreement when prompted. Click Next.
- Accept the default or enter the directory where you want J
Optimizer 2009 Agent installed. Click Next.
- Review the installation options that you have selected. If the
options are correct, click Install to begin the installation.
- Wait for the progress bar to indicate that the install is
complete. Click Done.
- Close all other running applications before installing J
Optimizer 2009 Agent.
- Insert the DVD; or download the ESD and extract it to
[JOptimizer2009RootDirectory].
- To start the installation launcher:
- If using the DVD, open JOPTIMIZER2009 icon on the GNOME
desktop.
If the launcher doesn't open automatically, open the DVD and
double-click install_linux.sh file to execute from Nautilus
File Manager. Click Run.
- If installing from the ESD, navigate to
[JOptimizer2009RootDirectory]
and enter
./install_linux.sh on the command line.
- To begin installation, click J Optimizer 2009 Agent.
- The Introduction screen appears.
- Read the information provided. Click Next.
- Accept the license agreement when prompted. Click Next.
- Accept the default or enter the directory where you want J
Optimizer 2009 Agent installed. Click Next.
- Review the installation options that you have selected. If the
options are correct, click Install to begin the installation.
- Wait for the progress bar to indicate that the install is
complete. Click Done.
- Close all other running applications before installing J
Optimizer 2009 Agent.
- Insert the DVD; or download the ESD and extract it to
[JOptimizer2009RootDirectory].
- To start the installation in GUI mode:
- If using the DVD, open JOPTIMIZER2009 icon on the CDE desktop.
- Double click on install.gui.mode.solaris.sh
- If installing from the ESD, navigate to
[JOptimizer2009RootDirectory] and enter
./install.gui.mode.solaris.sh
on the command line.
- The Introduction screen appears.
- Read the information provided. Click Next.
- Accept the license agreement when prompted. Click Next.
- Accept the default or enter the directory where you want J
Optimizer 2009Agent installed. Click Next.
- Review the installation options that you have selected. If the
options are correct, click Install to begin the installation.
- Wait for the progress bar to indicate that the install is
complete. Click Done.
- To start the installation in console mode:
- If using the DVD, in a console window, navigate to the DVD root
directory, JOPTIMIZER2009 icon.
- Execute the command ./install.console.mode.solaris.sh console
full_path_to_install, where full_path_to_install is the directory where
J Optimizer Agent will be installed to.
- If installing from the ESD, navigate to
[JOptimizer2009RootDirectory] and enter
./install.console.mode.solaris.sh console full_path_to_install, where
full_path_to_install is the directory where J Optimizer Agent will be
installed to.
- Change directory to the bin directory
of the J Optimizer 2009 Agent.
- Run the integWizard.bat (on Windows) or integWizard.sh (on
Macintosh, Linux and Solaris) tool to run the
integration wizard.
- Enter the number that represents the
server that you are using.
- Select the J Optimizer tool you want
to use. For example: Profiler, Request Analyzer, Code Coverage, or
Thread Debugger.
- Finish the integration.
- Run the J Optimizer integrated script to start
up your Server.
Attaching to the J Optimizer 2009
Agent
from a remote machine
- On the remote machine where standalone J Optimizer is installed,
launch J Optimizer.
- Click Run|Profile
Configurations..
- Click Attach - J Optimizer
Agent.
- Click the New button
in the toolbar to create a new attach configuration.
- In the Host tab, select Attach
to J Optimizer agent directly.
- Select the Profiler Type to match the tool that you started your
target application with.
- Enter the IP Address/Hostname of the machine from which you have
started your application (or application server) with J Optimizer
tooling.
- Enter the port that was used by the J Optimizer 2009 Agent.
- Click on Apply and Profile. Data should be displayed in
J Optimizer views.
