(Sorry for my ugly English):I want to say something that really make my spirit go away when considering to buy a new Delphi; that is : The 'Professional Version of Delphi only capable of doing only local connection'(??). What kind of professional that only want to use only local connections ? If I were a Delphi marketing guy, I would rather put couple of hundreds dollar more but include the remote capability, but dont 'FORCE' anyone to buy a whole unnecessary component (Enterprise Version) only to do a remote connections or buy a third party for that. Please, this is Delphi. Why should they buy a third party component only for a BASIC things??? Well, maybe this is just a marketing strategic, but the one what you have now is really a bad looking one ( OK.. at least to my need ) You can say that "I want the remote connection capability but not for $1000 more "................................................................. I am a Developer that use Delphi since Delphi 5. Recently I also useMicrosoft Visual Studio to Develop my applications ( Since the big Surprise happened / Borland things).I look at Delphi now and found the same thing still exist (read above), so I just write them here and hopefully Delphi will gain more success now and in the future. Love Delphi .

First, there was no "Delphi 2008". I'll assume you made a typo instead of pretending to be a Delphi user.Next, these GUI VCL components are very minor compared to other changes in Delphi 2009. For example, these changes in Delphi 2009:1. Full Unicode support. In everything from the VCL, RTL and compiler. I didn't care about this feature because we have WideString--until I needed to support Asian languages in one app.2. Generics. This is to Delphi what Templates are to C++. This is about as profound as going from procedural programming to object-oriented programming. Ask any C++ guru what using C++ would be like without Generics (aka Templates). It took years for the C++ community to grok Generics, and when they finally "got it" it changed the way they programmed forever.3. Anonymous methods. Not as profound as Generics, but still useful.4. Support for PNG in TImageList & TImage, improved project settings, improved installer performance, and so on...While the VCL components are nice to have, I don't care about them and will buy Delphi 2009 because of the 4 other reasons I listed. On the other hand, I probably won't buy Codegear C++ 2009 unless it provides the ability to create non-visual and visual VCL components that can be used within Delphi projects.

This video is just a quick sneak peek at some of the new items in one area of the product (the VCL). It only covers a very small part of what is coming in the new versions. There will be a second what's new in the VCL video covering other things like Office-style ribbon controls and around ten other videos on other new and enhanced in other areas of the product including IDE features, additions to the language, Unicode, database, and more.

Ok, from what I see the company is missing the boat. A few VCL enhancements don't rate a new version. They are probably already available from TMS, DevExpress or Open Source. I complained years ago about there being no suite of tools to compete or compliment Visual Studio. I remember buying JBuilder, C++ Builder and Delphi as separate versions and spending alot of money. You guys finally listen to me and created Delphi Studio 2006. You should of enhanced this version buy adding JBuilder, Kylix, Windows Mobile support, Vista support, latest DOT NET Framework and replace the BDE. Don't know why the BDE and MIDAS worked for others in a production environment. I could never get it to work without major bugs. I always used third party solutions. Not sure what happened after that. RAD Studio appears to be missing alot. Everyone I know appears to be switching to C# or VB.Net. What is Delphi's future? If you want to talk about it send me an email at donpotts@ictenterprises.com.

I really fail to see how these handful of VCL improvements could warrant a new version of Delphi and it's respective upgrade costs. As a shareware developer for the past ten years, I've used Delphi primarily for most of this time; making it an on-going investment to continue using Delphi. While new technologies have come to the forefront over the past several years, Delphi has remained stale and stagnant in it's development. While these "new" VCL controls are certainly "new-to" Delphi, they have existed for years and years with thirdparty developers like "TMS Software", "DevExpress" and "Raize" and are extremely stable. Sadly, these updates from <strike>Borland</strike><strike>CodeGear</strike>Embarcadero really only attacks these great thirdparty developers aka the only ones that have been keeping Delphi applications looking modern and supporting the latest UI.While Delphi 2008 certainly brought stability to Delphi 2007 (which was dreadful), it did very little to address the concerns of modern developers. Delphi 2009 looks no different. Unless things change, I just can't see plunking down another $400.What's going to keep Delphi in-the-game is not further monetizing existing developers with VCL improvements (which are years behind 3rd party developers), but rather increasing the feasibility of continued use in the environment with tools we *need*...These include:- 64 bit Support- FULL Unicode (someday)- .Net3.x / WPF / GDI+- .NET Compact Framework (for Windows Mobile)I know that these items are on the "RoadMap" for later development. But these are not cutting-edge requests and Delphi's lack of modern-feature supports hurts me as a indie-developer daily, as my competitors upgrade their applications with technologies which are now common-place.Thanks for reading and feel-free to help steer the new owners of Delphi.

Love Delphi, use it everyday!!! This will hurt but it needs to be said. These "new" components and enhancements to the VCL are already available in commercial and open source libraries already and have been for YEARS!. In my humble opinion CodeGear needs to do the following and do it ASAP!1. Look at what third party libraries like TMS, DevExpress, Jedi, have added to delphi and build on these forward thinking ideas. Many components from these libraries are really great and can turn your "plain" looking windows app into pure eye candy.2. DelphiVCL and Delphi.NET need to support latest technology. eg. .Net3./3.5, WPF, GDI+, while it is still the latest technology. 3. RAD C# IDE (Not just a C# compiler).4. And last but not least in today's mobile app crazy world. MOBILE application RAD IDE that targets MS compact framework and multiple device platforms eg. smart phone, windows mobile. Thanks for reading!
