SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. – October 2, 2007 CodeGear, a leader in developer tools, today announced that acclaimed C++ luminary and standards expert Alisdair Meredith has joined CodeGear’s product group. Meredith will be responsible for guiding the future direction of the company’s C++ Builder® product line. According to Evans Data Corporation1, more than 1.5 million developers use the product line today, making CodeGear C++Builder the world’s leading native C++ rapid application development (RAD) integrated development environment (IDE) for Microsoft® Windows.

Meredith is a recognized C++ expert and standards contributor. He is active in several key C++ standards committees, including the ISO C++ Language Committee and the BSI British Standards panel for C++. Meredith will also represent CodeGear's seat on the ANSI C++ Committee.

In addition to his involvement with C++ standards, Meredith is renowned in the C++ developer community. He is the C++0x Evolution List maintainer, which defines the next generation of ISO language standards, and he maintains the C++ Boost Array Library and the C++Builder Boost Library ports.

In his new role at CodeGear, Meredith will work closely with the C++ developer community and CodeGear's product team with the goal of continuing to increase developer productivity. He will focus his efforts on driving innovation and leveraging new C++ standards and capabilities to bring C++Builder's unique rapid development advantages into the future.

"It's an exciting time for C++ development and a great time to be joining CodeGear," said Meredith. "CodeGear's C++Builder 2007 IDE is both innovative and unique, enabling rapid and agile C++ development on the latest Windows platforms such as Windows XP and Windows Vista™. With the final stages of the next C++ standard coming into play, standards will be even more important. I'm looking forward to being part of a team committed to advancing C++ standards, supporting rapid development innovations and, most importantly, fostering stronger relationships within the developer community.

Said Michael Swindell, CodeGear Vice President of Products, "Alisdair's active involvement in the C++ standard bodies and greater community will help CodeGear advance C++Builder in step with upcoming developments in C++, and help reinforce C++Builder as a top choice for high-powered client and client/server C++ development.
