Abstract: JBuilder. Scores High Across Features and Performance Categories in Developers Choice IDE Survey

CUPERTINO, Calif. — March 21, 2006 —Borland Software Corporation (NASDAQNM: BORL) announced its JBuilder® Integrated Development Environment (IDE) took top honors in a recent “Developers’ Choice” study by Evans Data Corporation. The study, in which over 700 developers ranked the features and capabilities of nine top IDEs in 13 distinct categories, placed JBuilder at the top of the compiler category, the profiler category, and the debugger category and ranked well above its competitors for performance of resulting applications.

“Borland's tools have long been loved by developers for their quality and high performance and that hasn't changed,” stated John Andrews, Evans Data president, in a recent press release titled “New Evans Data IDE Study Shows Borland Toolset Still a Powerhouse.”

“The results of this survey reinforce the kind of value that developers are looking for in their IDEs today,” said David Intersimone, vice president of developer relations and chief evangelist at Borland. “We take pride that Borland is making a big impact within the developer community and believe this ranking personifies our long-standing commitment to developer productivity.”

The Developers' Choice -- IDE study is the precursor to a larger study Evans Data plans to conduct globally this Spring to assess developers' satisfaction with IDEs and their toolsets throughout the major geographic regions. Detailed information about the survey can be viewed at:

Later this year, Borland plans to announce an Eclipse-based Java IDE, codenamed “Project Peloton.” Based on the award-winning JBuilder IDE and leveraging Eclipse projects such as WTP, Peloton will provide a rich user experience with two-way EJB and Web Services designers, seamless migration tools, and innovative peer-to-peer developer collaboration features similar to those available in JBuilder 2006.
