The JBuilder "Speed" ad
If you have seen any recent Java or
software development magazines, you probably noticed the Borland
and JBuilder “Speed” ads. The
advertising campaign kicked off with two page ads in nearly every
industry publication, promoting the Borland brand with themes like
“Speed: Fast Teams and the Story of Borland.” The
JBuilder ad continues with the speed theme and how JBuilder helps
speed Java application development.

Little known fact: The new Borland magazine ads and Web banner ads feature
Borland employees in the photos.
Work the way you want
What do we mean by work the way you want? Flexibility, freedom to
choose your platforms, and the opportunity to put together the best
development solution for your needs. We try to deliver on this in
everything we do with support for multiple operating systems
(Windows, Linux, and Solaris), multiple application servers (Borland
Enterprise Server, BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Sybase EAServer,
Oracle9i Application Server), and version control systems (Borland
StarTeam, Visual SourceSafe, ClearCase and CVS).
Another important area is integration between JBuilder and the
other products that make up the Borland solution for Java. We have an
amazing level of integration between JBuilder 9 and StarTeam.
Check out the Team menu of JBuilder 9 Enterprise and you
will see that the integration with StarTeam goes far beyond what you
will find between any other IDE and change management system. The
integration between JBuilder and Together Edition for JBuilder has
also improved and provides automatic synchronization between your UML
models and code. And in the future you can look forward to an even higher
level of integration with Together Edition for JBuilder running right
inside the JBuilder IDE.
Develop your Java applications faster
It seems like everything is moving faster today. Bigger project
backlogs and fewer resources mean developers have to get more done in
less time. This is where the idea of speeding development really
becomes important. Developers need a tool that will help them get
their work done faster. In JBuilder, our goal is to provide the right
combination of coding tools and wizards to help all levels of Java
developers get their work done more quickly but not get in the way
of their code. JBuilder 9 includes new
and improved tools for building Web applications, working with Ant,
and building archives among many others. And it is all done in pure
Java for cross-platform scalability.
Build in performance and quality from the start
Perhaps the most exciting new part of JBuilder 9 Enterprise is the
inclusion of Borland Optimizeit Suite performance tools. Optimizeit
Suite includes a profiler, thread debugger, and code coverage tools to
help ensure that you are delivering high quality, high performance
applications. These tools are a great complement to the quality tools
in JBuilder, which include debugging, remote debugging, and unit
testing. For example, you can use the unit testing tools in JBuilder
to quickly build tests and then use Optimizeit Code Coverage to
visually see how much of your code is being tested. Getting things
done right the first time is always easier than having someone else
find problems and having to rush to fix them at the last minute. With
JBuilder, our goal is to empower JBuilder users to deliver the best
quality applications.
An award winning solution
The ad shows just a few of the many awards that have recently been
presented to JBuilder. We have also received a
number of new awards including PC Magazine Editors' Choice, eWEEK
Analyst's Choice, JavaPro Readers Choice, and the SIIA Codie Award
for best software development product. Nearly every industry publication
and trade group has recognized Borland JBuilder as the leader in both
Java development and software development in general.
The application lifecycle
The icons near the bottom of the ad represent the application
lifecycle and how JBuilder fits into it. The idea behind this is to show
that Borland offers more than just development tools. Borland now offers a full ALM
(Application Lifecycle Management) solution for Java. The Borland solution for
Java includes:
Define – CaliberRM
Design – Together Edition for JBuilder
Develop – JBuilder
Test – Optimizeit Suite and Optimizeit ServerTrace
Deploy – Borland Enterprise Server and JDataStore
Manage – StarTeam
JBuilder fits into the develop portion of the application
lifecycle and also closely links with other parts of the solution.
JBuilder integration with Together Edition for JBuilder ensures
that your UML models and code are always synchronized without having
to manually forward and reverse engineer. Together also supplements
JBuilder with code audits, metrics, and documentation tools.
JBuilder works with CaliberRM requirements management through
Together Edition for JBuilder to help ensure user requirements are
tracked and delivered on.
Optimizeit Suite is included in JBuilder Enterprise and runs right
within the JBuilder IDE to help ensure quality and performance of
applications. Optimizeit ServerTrace takes it a step further and
helps you track down performance issues in deployed applications.
JBuilder includes tight integration with Borland Enterprise
Server, a high-performance, J2EE-compliant application server.
JBuilder also includes a development license for JDataStore, an
all-Java database that is a great solution where a “no-maintenance”
database is required.
And for managing team development, the integration between
JBuilder and StarTeam goes beyond what you will find between any
other Java IDE and team development solution.
