Abstract: What to do if you are unable to type your JBuilder serial number into the license manager.

Question:

My serial number has a '?' in it but JBuilder will not accept it. What can I do?

Answer:

Here are a few things to try:

  • If you are using a locale which is not US English, try changing it to US English long enough to enter the serial number.
  • Try using cut-and-paste to copy the serial number from your email or other text document. You may need to use Notepad or some other application as an intermediate step.
  • For Linux users, JBuilder runs on JDK 1.3 and if you're using Sun's 1.3 you will run into the following bug in the JVM:

    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4371923.html

If you have changed JBuilder's "jdk.config" file to run JBuilder on Sun's JVM, try changing it back to IBM's JVM long enough to enter the license information.

If you ever need to view or enter the licensing information in JBuilder after it is already installed:

  • Linux and Solaris: run jbuilder -license from a console.
  • Windows: use the "Licensing Information" shortcut -OR- run jbuilder -license from a command prompt.
