Reaching upper limit on metadata versioning produces error "-607 too many versions."

By: Justin Swett

Abstract: After I have created a database I get an error of too many metadata versions?

Question: What do I do when I try to add an object to my newly created database and I get an error stating that there are too many metadata versions?

Answer: The reason for this error is due to Interbase's upper limit on metadata versioning. Interbase allows 255 versions to be made before a back up and restore is required. If you come across this error while building your database, try backing up and restoring the database. This will refresh the version count.
