How do I set up the database cache?

By: Borland Staff

Abstract: 4 different ways to set the cache

Problem:
How do I set up the database cache?

Solution:
The ways to set up cache size are as follows:
a) ibconfig file
-> Setting cache here will affect all databases running on that server

b) InterBase configuration program
-> Setting cache here will affect all databases running on that server

c) The api call isc_attach_database
-> Setting cache here works for this connection only

d) gfix
-> Setting cache with gfix is for all future attachments to
to the database specified on the command line.

-> use the -buffers switch to change cache with gfix. The
syntax is :
     gfix -buffers n database_name
- n is the number of pages

Note :
There are no hard and fast rules about how to optimally
set up cache size. Customers can look at the list server
archives to see what others with similar database setup
and objectives have done.
