Internet Licensing Model

By: Borland Staff

Abstract: A special Internet Access License with Unlimited Users has been created

Problem:
How is InterBase licensed for Internet users?

Solution:
The information in this article applies to:
** InterBase 5.x, 6.x

The licensing model for internet access has changed. The limited internet access license has been deprecated.

  • No special license is required for use of InterBase with the Internet. Simply buy the appropriate number of simultaneous users to support your internet site.
  • Some large public web sites have difficulty predicting the number of simultaneous users required to support their operations. For these sites we have created this special Internet Access License with Unlimited Users. This license is a cost effective answer for server customers ordering 23 or more additional simultaneous users.
  • This license is only for sites open to the General Public (not for an intranet or extranet). These sites must not be behind a firewall, be protected by purchased passwords, require membership, or in any other way restrict access by the general public. Restricted access sites are considered to be intranet or extranet sites and require purchase of the appropriate number of simultaneous users. This license is not for use as an unlimited user license within a company.
  • The product is an envelope with an ID and key on the paper inside of it. To activate the Internet Access License, the customer runs the license manager and enters the license ID and key when prompted. This is explained on the piece of paper with the ID and key. Every ID and key is unique, and InterBase will not allow the same ID and key to be reused.
