C++Builder 4 installation under multiple NT profiles

By: Chyna Trople

Abstract: How to install BCB in an environment with different user profiles.

Category: Install
Platform: Windows 9x, NT 4.0
Product: C++Builder

Question:

I just installed Borland C++Builder locally under Windows NT and it works fine while I am logged in as the administrator, but ONLY as administrator. When I log on as another user and start BCB, the component pallette is empty, and I can't link any programs - it tells me it can't find system.obj.

How do I fix this problem?

Answer:

You will need to log in as each user and perform a registry only installation on systems that use mulitple profiles. Follow the instructions below to do this:

  1. Insert the C++Builder installation CD.
  2. Start the C++Builder installation.
  3. Select the "Registry" option in the the "Setup Type" dialog box.

NOTE: C++Builder was not designed to be run from a network server. The instructions above cover installing locally on a workstation.
