Renowned Plum Hall Validation Suite Test Re-Affirms Company's Leadership in Standards Compliance

SCOTTS VALLEY, CA - October 13, 1999 - In its ongoing commitment to provide software developers with the best in software development tools, Inprise Corporation (Nasdaq: INPR) today announced it is releasing the test results of its current C++ compiler, Borland C++ Builder 4. A leader in standards compliance, the test results show that Borland C++ Builder 4 received the highest ever compliance rating. Inprise will publish the results of the conformance tests on its new community Web site specifically for developers at http://community.borland.com/article/1,1410,10047,00.html

"Knowing exactly what level of compliance their compiler vendor provides makes it easier for developers to port code to other platforms or other compilers," said Jeff Barca-Hall, chief technology officer at Inprise Corporation. "Borland C++Builder 4 is the only front-to-back C++ compiler and development environment for creating desktop, client/server, multi-tier and distributed applications that are interoperable with multiple platforms. Inprise also encourages all C++ compiler vendors to disclose their level of compliance to the standard by publishing their test results."

For several years, Inprise has utilized the Plum Hall Validation Suites to test its C and C++ compilers. Recognized as the industry's first choice for testing ANSI/ISO C++ compliance, the Plum Hall Validation Suite for C++ tests for conformance to the ISO/IEC 14882:1998 standard.

"I spend a great deal of time trying to figure out if I misunderstand the standard or if something is wrong" says Bruce Eckel, renowned expert in C++ and author of 'Thinking in C++'. "If all companies would publish their standard's compliance testing results, it would allow me to use my time in better ways."

Bjarne Stroustrup, creator of the C++ language states, "I think that emphasizing the importance of the Standard and of independent testing is just right. Great initiative!"
